Use your ugly paper!

OK, maybe the paper isn’t UGLY, but it’s definitely not your favorite. I know you have these “least favorites” just like I do. You buy a package of DSP and love, love, love most of the prints. Then there are always 2 (or 3 or more) that are just NOT your favorite. Maybe they are too plain. Maybe the print is too large or small. Maybe the color combination is just not your taste.

Well, whatever the reason, for those lonely left-over papers that are still in your collection, it’s time to try to use those up.

This card tutorial is featured on my YouTube series, “Simply Saturday” on Feb 24, 2024 as episode #105. You can view it online or below. I made 2 more cards with this layout and choosing some papers that are not my favorites. The card above uses a black and white X-shape patters which I don’t really like, but works well alongside the 2 floral patterns that I do like. Check out the other cards below…

The card on the left uses a strip of strawberry print paper. I don’t really like it, but used in small quantity, like on this card, it works well! Also note that on this card, I popped up the words strip with Stampin’ Dimensionals and wrapped the twine around that whole strip, just for something different. The center card (looks like it’s on a black base, but really it’s Night of Navy) has a Fresh Freesia triangle pattern that is “meh”. But here, it pulls the color from the tulips paper and really works well.

What papers do you need to sort through and find your “uglies”? All the papers shown today are from Delightfully Eclectic DSP (which, by the way, you can earn from FREE right now as a Sale-A-Bration gift. Good through 02/29/24). There are SO many patterns in this package that I love…but it was really fun and challenging to use the loners. Haha

To make this card you’ll need:

  • Basic Black card stock 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Score and fold at 4 1/4″.
  • Fresh Freesia card stock (Julie’s layering template #2) or 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • White card stock (Julie’s layering template #3) or 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • 3 strips of coordinating DSP 1″ x 5″
  • white card stock 1″ x 3 3/4″. You can use a narrower strip that is only 3/4″ wide if you wish. (see center sample above)
  • 10″ of twine or ribbon for a bow
  • Tinsel Gems 3-pack
