Simple Design – a “use what you have card”

This fabulous card design is one you will come back to time and time again. I recently featured it on my YouTube series called Simply Saturday, where I teach a “fast & easy” card. You can find the tutorial as episode 70 at this link: https://youtu.be/dj3yszKvQqo or scroll to the bottom of this post to watch.

Here are the dimensions:

  • card stock base – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Score and fold at 4 1/4″
  • card stock panel – 5″ x 3 1/4″
  • DSP (3) of coordinating patterns – 3″ x 1 1/2″ OR 3″ x 1 1/4″ will also look nice.
  • ribbon or trim – about 6 1/2″ plus another 6″ to tie a bow or knot.
  • scraps of colored card stock and white card stock for your stamping and die cuts (or punches)
  • white card stock panel for inside (optional) – 4″ x 5 1/4″

By the way, I often dress up the inside of the card by either stamping something simple on the white panel or by adding a narrow (1/4″ – 3/4″) strip of coordinating DSP. This strip can run horizontally along the top or bottom of the card. Or, you can have it run vertically at the left side. Besides this little extra on the inside of the card, I really like to dress up the envelope too, even though urgency of getting a card into the mail sometimes prevents this. I’ll plan to do a whole post showing different ways to dress up your envelopes.

On this particular card I used some recently retired DSP. Do you have some of this in your paper stash? I really liked this paper a lot and wish it was around longer, although papers do come and go in my world. It’s bittersweet, as a beloved paper leaves forever only to make room for another paper that is bound to become a new favorite.
